Nvidia’s Super Plan: How the RTX 4070 Super and RTX 4080 Super Could Dominate the GPU Market
Nvidia is known for its innovative and powerful graphics cards, but it seems that the company is not satisfied with its current GeForce RTX 40 series. According to some rumors, Nvidia is working on three new Super variants of its existing GPUs: the RTX 4070 Super, the RTX 4070 Ti Super, and the RTX 4080 Super. These cards are expected to offer improved performance, higher VRAM capacity, and possibly lower prices than their non-Super counterparts.
The RTX 4070 Super is rumored to feature 5888 CUDA cores, 12 GB of GDDR6X memory, and a 250 W TDP. This would be a significant upgrade from the RTX 4070, which has 5120 CUDA cores, 10 GB of GDDR6 memory, and a 220 W TDP. The RTX 4070 Super could also benefit from a wider 192-bit memory interface, compared to the 160-bit interface of the RTX 4070. The RTX 4070 Super could compete with the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT, which has similar specs but a higher TDP of 300 W.
The RTX 4070 Ti Super is a mysterious card that has not been mentioned much in the leaks. However, some speculate that it could be a bridge between the RTX 4070 Super and the RTX 4080. It could have around 6400 CUDA cores, 16 GB of GDDR6X memory, and a 275 W TDP. The RTX 4070 Ti Super could be a direct rival to the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT Liquid Cooled Edition, which has the same amount of VRAM but more compute units and a higher TDP of 330 W.
The RTX 4080 Super is the most anticipated card of the bunch, as it could be the ultimate gaming GPU for enthusiasts. It is rumored to have an AD102 GPU with around 10000 CUDA cores, 20 GB of GDDR6X memory, and a whopping 400 W TDP. This would make it almost twice as powerful as the RTX 4080, which has an AD104 GPU with 6144 CUDA cores, 12 GB of GDDR6 memory, and a 320 W TDP. The RTX 4080 Super could also have a wider 320-bit memory interface, compared to the 256-bit interface of the RTX 4080. The RTX 4080 Super could challenge the AMD Radeon RX VEGA II, which is expected to have similar specs but a lower TDP of 375 W.
There is no official confirmation from Nvidia about these Super cards, so take these rumors with a grain of salt. However, if they are true, then we could see some exciting competition in the high-end GPU market in the near future. Nvidia could launch these cards sometime in late-2023 or early-2024, depending on the availability of chips and market demand. The prices of these cards are also unknown, but they could be lower than their non-Super counterparts, as Nvidia did with the RTX 20 series. For example, the RTX 2080 Super was launched at $699, which was $100 less than the original RTX 2080.
